State and local scholarship Programs

Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond offers over 65 scholarship opportunities for students in many Virginia localities. Application opens January 2, 2024.

The River Counties Community Foundation offers scholarships to students in Lancaster, Middlesex, and Northumberland Counties. RCCF is an affiliate of the Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond, so apply at the link above.

Henrico Retired School Personnel Association Scholarship offers a scholarship to a 2024 Henrico County Public School graduate interested in pursuing a career in the education field as a teacher or as a school support professional. Find the application here. Application due March 15, 2024.

The Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge has over 100 scholarship opportunities for students in the counties of Augusta, Highland, and Nelson and the cities of Staunton and Waynesboro. Application due March 1, 2023.

The John Randolph Foundation offers many scholarship opportunities for students residing in Hopewell, Prince George, Enon, Chester, Petersburg, Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie, Sussex, Surry, Charles City, and Varina. Application due January 15, 2023.

Virginia's Future Leaders Scholarship Program - A statewide education initiative of the Virginia broadband industry. For 16 years the Virginia cable industry, the Donald A. Perry Foundation and the VCTA have awarded scholarships to outstanding Virginia students attending Virginia colleges across the Commonwealth. This program is a one-time award and is open to Virginia residents attending an undergraduate 2 or 4 year program at a Virginia institution of higher learning in the upcoming academic year. Application opens soon, due March 2023.

National scholarship programs

Graybar Construction Trades Scholarship - A scholarship of up to $1,000, renewable for a second year, for graduating high school seniors or high school equivalency diploma recipients pursuing an associate degree, pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, or certificate program leading to work in the construction trades (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, pipefitting, welding). Application expected to open January 1, 2023.

The Jack Kent Cooke FoundationScholarship programs for outstanding high school seniors attending 4-year schools (due November 17, 2022) and community college transfer students (due January 12, 2023) with financial need. Up to $40,000 per year!

QuestBridge - Program that helps selected high-achieving students gain admission and full-scholarships to some top colleges and universities. Household income is usually $60,000 or less. Application due September 27, 2022.

Trade Scholarships - Scholarship opportunities for students wanting to learn a skill or trade, from the host of "Dirty Jobs." The Mike Rowe WORKS Foundation started the Profoundly Disconnected campaign to challenge the absurd belief that a four-year degree is the only path to success. Application opens soon, expected deadline April 2023.

U.S. Department of Defense STEM Scholarships - "Department of Defense scholarships provide cash awards to students who have demonstrated ability and aptitude for excelling in STEM fields in disciplines of importance to DoD." Most DoD scholarships require employment with the DoD after graduation.

Scholarship programs for minority students

APIA Scholarship Program
National program offering scholarships up to $20,000 to students of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity. Application due January 19, 2023.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund
National scholarship program for Hispanic students (seniors and current college students). Application expected to open January 1, 2023 and be due March 15, 2023.

Jackie Robinson Foundation
National scholarship program for minority students who demonstrate leadership potential, commitment to community service and financial need. Awards up to $30,000 for four years. Application due January 11, 2023.

Ron Brown Scholars Program
National scholarship program for academically talented African-American high school seniors with demonstrated financial need, social commitment, and leadership potential. $10,000 per year for four years. Application due January 9, 2023.

UNCF
The UNCF site links to a number of scholarships that the organization administers, primarily for minority students. Application details and deadlines vary.

Virginia Latino Higher Education Network
State-wide program offering scholarships to Latino/x and Hispanic students. Application opens November 2022.

Scholarship Programs for students with autism

The Organization for Autism Research offers $3,000 scholarships to students with an autism spectrum diagnosis who will be attending a two-year community college; a four-year college or university; a trade, technical, or vocational school; or a cooperative life skills program. Application expected to open December 2022 and be due May 2023.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS FOR MILITARY DEPENDENTS

Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation
College scholarships of $6,250 and educational counseling for children of military service members who have lost a parent in the line of duty.

Virginia Military Survivors and Dependent Education Program
Description of Virginia's education benefits for children and spouses of military service members killed, missing in action, taken prisoner, or disabled through military service in an armed conflict. Applies to public colleges and universities in Virginia.
